Autodesk’s Preferred Industry Partner Program Helps Customers Find Solutions |

Autodesk launched its Preferred Industry Partner Program in August, 2007 and has since been adding companies to that list. The program was designed to designate companies that have products that integrate through application programming interfaces with Autodesk software and help ease customers’ transition into concepts like digital prototyping or building information modeling (BIM). Autodesk “looks for partners that are making state of the art products and that give customers new capabilities and value. Autodesk and the partners are well aligned with how they bring their products to the market so we can work together getting the application out to many customers,” said Jim Quanci, director of the Autodesk Developer Network.
Autodesk plays out the partnership exactly how a partnership should operate: both parties work together to bring solutions for the customers. “We work closely with partners on the business and technical side in sharing ideas and helping each other out,” said Quanci.
A good example of this partnership is with Trelligence, Inc., a company that focuses on providing architectural solutions for the early design process. Trelligence was made a Preferred Industry Partner in June 2008 for its Affinity product, which integrates with Autodesk Revit Architecture to provide Revit customers using BIM assistance with the architectural programming process, open communication and the schematics during the pre-design phase. “To me, this Affinity product is a framework for conceptual design where everything can be managed. There’s great functionality, and a great workflow; users establish communication so all the team members like the project manager, the owner and others can look at where they are and where they should we be with the Revit model,” said Quanci.
This lightweight communication tool helps make sure the initial customer requirements are met and clear documentation is made: “As the design progresses in Revit, the bi-directional integration provides the designer with full visibility into the space program requirements, and analyzes how well the design is meeting program requirements. This is particularly crucial in large, complex projects – helping the design team be better informed earlier in the design process, resulting in less rework and a design that better meets the client's needs,” said Carole Kernohan, vice president of Business Development for Trelligence, Inc.
Currently there are eight Preferred Industry Partners and Autodesk has the objective of having 20 to 25 partners eventually. Although Autodesk is actively looking for partners, they want to keep it an exclusive organization. “The Preferred Industry Partners are taking our products to the limit. They’re showing off what the software can do and leveraging the data in our products,” said Emile Kfouri, P.E., Sr. platform line manager of Autodesk’s AEC Solutions Division.
